MARINES

one day we did an air force museum so we thought we weren' to far from parris island where they train the marines so why not go to their museum...so off we went...it started way before the ccivil war and had lots of stuff to read some of it we have seen in other museums but not the less we spent way over 2 hrs looking-reading-walking-stuff...funny thing about the base was we saw very little activity...maybe they were all in taking naps or something...on our way out we did see a  few..

now for the best part of the day we went out to lunch and spoke to the waiter several times and had conversations with him..lar asked about  fried ice cream and the young man (jash) said yes they had it so lar's eyes lite up..oh i will have one when i am done...so we ate our lunch oh it was mexican...then came the dessert and of course after that came the bill..we looked at it and he had not charge us for the ice cream we made it a point to let him know...he answer was oh it is on the house ..so off we went to the cahsier who was the young man...we gave him out bill and credit card to pay and all he did was rip it up and said have a nice day...our  reaction was oh no we need to pay for it and again he said NO...we relented to not paying the bill (lar went back to the table and left a bigger tip) and when we go to the truck we think a PAY IT FORWARD  had been done...it is funny to be on the other side of a pay it forward...we have done that several times to others but have not ever recived it...we usually do it at a mcdonalds when we are getting an ice cream ok someting like that...while in bolixi and we stopped for lar favorite Krispy Kreme he gave every one there a tip so for the heck of it  i guess a pay it forward...what a nice feeling it is to be treated and of course out of the blue...god sure works in different ways...god bless

AIR FORCE MUSEUM

first no pictures will be included we have very slow wi-fi so who knows how long it might to load any pictures...

if any of you travel I-95 thur south carolina-georgia yu have seen this museum and that is why we decided to stop cause lar saw it on our way down and added it to his bucket list...

the museum is in pooler, ga just outside savannah,ga...a easy on easy off place to go to but we decided to spend a few days in the area as we haven't spent much time here and are waiting for the snow to be gone  at home hahaha..

so off we went this morning took a drive tour thur savannah then to the museum where we spent way over 4 hrs..it was interesting..saw several movies and read lots of stuff..sat in on a presentation and of course saw lots of different airplanes (wonder why)...walked the gardens..thought that maybe we couldn't visit the chapel as they is usually a wedding ceremony going on but lucky for us either the wedding was later in the day or was over by the time we got there..

then on our way back we drove thru a wildlife refuge and saw out first alligators wild..saw at least a dozen or more laying along the river bank sunny themselves...

still slowly working our way back to ithaca..

CUMBERLAND ISLAND

today we took of to go to the cumberland national island seashore....i know that in order you have to take a ferry that is 7 miles  out in the ocean and had decided not to do that due to the weather...rainy not a day to ride a ferry for an hr...so we just did a couple of museums...oh we did get a badge thou...we talked to a ranger and she decided to give us the booklet and a badge anyway cause it was not a good day to go to the island bless her..

then there  was a museum a couple of blocks away...now that is a story...it dosen't open up till 1 pm so we waited for it to open up...a volunteer was in charge for the day so in we went and don't you know the alarm went off...the volunteer  had no idea how to turn it off (that wasn't part of the training)..finally arrived and heard the story and was asked to go to the national park office around the corner cause there was no way the volunteer could call them at that time...soo the charge person arrived and we got it turned off ..now we could go thru the  museum...interesting john kennedy was married and the island...in a very small church on it...he knew a friend who of course made arrangements for him...

we also found out that the final battle of the war of 1812 was fought on the island...

BRUNSWICK, GA

now that we have some decent  wi-fi i can post 2 days in a row.yippee

today we took of to go visit fort frederica yep another national monument...it was most interesting and a wee bit different that some of the other forts we have visited...much smaller fort and it only lasted a few years..

spend a couple of hrs walking around it and the "no seemum" were out in full force..if you don't know about those no seemum they are tiny black bugs that attack a person and drive them crazy..kinda like blasck flies but smaller and lots of them flying around  a person head...even with bug spray on they still attacked..

this junior ranger  badge we had to do some interactive stuff like play a game and put on some period type hats...even use a compass and plot a corse..

still it was interesting..

when we were in the rangers house getting our badge there also was a young man asking for the booklet and of course we got to talking about the badges he has a  coffee can full... and was talked into getting his first one at carlsbad caverns and ws  hooked after that..he is a pilot so he gets around..

the ranger said that the former baoss of the fort was more sticky about adults working on the badge but the new one was much better...

we  recieved the new badge and it is now hung on the badge display hanging"thingy" or what ever you want to call it..

life is still going great..

JACKSONVILLE

we just spent a few days in the jacksonville area where we visited three national parks and earned 3 new junior ranger badges...we now have earned over 50 since we started working on the badges ..we didn't realize that adults could earn them when we first started going to national parks ...oh    well it is fun now at our age and we learn some things by getting the badges..now to remember it all...

we have now landed in brunswick to go to yep you guessed it another national park fort fredicia...then jeykell island

slowly working our way back north but not in a real hurry yet ...waiting for spring ahahhaha..

STEVEN FOSTER FOLK MUSEUM STATE PARK

back in florida and we are seeing things we hadn't know about...lar was looking at the map and he saw where there was this park and was not very far from where we were for an overnight..so we thought why not stay an extra day and go see it...we did not realize that we could have stayed at the state park till after we had registered here but it only cost us 18 a night...also it as easy on and will be easy off...

so this morning off we went  and found it most interesting...did you know that steven foster was raised in pittsburgh  but they built his museum here on the you guessed it  on the "swanee river"..wonder why...he was an accountant and did song writing on the side till his song

s became popular so he quit that job and turned to song writing full time...there is also a bell tower that rings on the 1/4/hr--1/2 hr --3/4 hr-- and of course it plays several of his songs on the hour

there alot of songs he has writen that i have no idea what they are and i don't think i ever heard them...of course one you hear every year if you watch the kentucky derby and sip mint juilps hahaha..

also we got a bonus the azelas are in full bloom and beautiful...

birds woke us up this morning..

and we are back on eastern time..darn we like centrral time...oh well..

SUNDAY ON THE COAST

today of course is sunday so we wanted to go to church but couldn't find one that fit our time frame and to find the right one so insteasd lar wanted a krispy kreme donut...that we did but also cause we didn't go to church we did a play it forward...hope they all felt good cause we did..

then it was a ride along the gulf  coast where as you all know katrina did her damage ;several years ago we wanted to just see how much has been done since...almost a different place...lots of empty lots with for sale signs on them...we also saw the carved figures in the median along rt 90 where a man carved them from broken down trees after katrina hit...

after that a wee bit of shopping..

tomorrow on the move heading to theodore ,al to b=get the new tv put in then on to florida to pick up our mail at our forwarding service..after that we are not sure where we will land...there are several natio

nal parks on the coast we have not bee to and are looking at that..

we are now in gulfport mississippi till monday morning when we will head to theodore, al to get the new tv replaced...

friday for lunch we went to the 'blow fly inn" which was on d-d-d on the food channel if you watch it...i had some very delicious catfish and lar had a crab cake was very disappointed in it  as it was small and only 1...but the sweet potatoes were  very good..when we got back to the rig he had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...

when we stopped at the mississippi welcome station on friday there was the "john stennis space  center/museum 3 miles away ...so we filed it to do today...

so this morning we went out to breakfast then the museum..spent the whole day there and found it most interesting...especially when we saw stuff from the discovery shuttle which we watch launch in florida several years ago..

also a bus tour of part of the 22 square miles of the center where they do all kinds of testing of rockets...

not sure what we might do tomorrow but i'm sure we will find something unless we get a blizzard overnight hahaha...finally this afternoon we are seeing some sun..amen

GOOD WI-FI

oh it has been awhile since i have posted anything but due to not having good wi-fi i just didn't try..

i think the last time was in san antonio when we were that the missions...

since then we spent 6 days in the tomball, tx area and visit GW bush presidential library which we had been to before but the hoff's had not...they change the exhibits  ever so often so we saw stuff we had not seen before and found it most interesting...

on the way back to camp we stopped at the blue bell cremery and had an ice cream as we had missed a tour and they were about ready to close...what a deal you can get for only $1.00 a large scoop and some very good ice cream...

one day we visited the local museum and found it most interesting abut the area..

MORE MISSIONS

we have been enjoying san antonio especially af

ter we got all new tires for the rig..the weather hasn't been all that great but we sure have been busy...spent on afternoon at the first mission and shent another day shopping around filling up the rig with "stuff"...sunday we went to aaron and sarah tro see their new house --visit --and out to lunch/dinner had a great tex/mex meal and more visiting...then it was time to head back to the base as we wanted to get here before dark..

the roads remind us of friday night in ithaca but only 100 times worse...

today we wanted to finish the missions so we went to 3 of them..each one is different and was for a different purpose..

then to lunch we had never eaten at a whataburger so that was the lucnheon of the day..

tomorrow we both pack up and head to the houston area for a few days...tony and caroline daughter marci and husband now live there so we will meet up with them...see the sights of houston not exactly what ones we will se but plan on bneing busy if the weather cooperates...and dosen't ice or snow..

most of the locals are complaining about the temps we say just put on another layer..

life is just going well..
