MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

over looking MITCHELL POND from the mountain above it

i sure hope every ones weekend was a good one...lar went on his annual pack backing trip to the moose river recreation area to mitchell ponds for fishing...he went with his brother bill and nephew mark and his son zac...they ate -fished-ate-fished- and probably took a nap or 2..i could have gone but i knew mitch wanted to stay home so i decided to stay with him..we (i) mowed the lawn again-finished the garden-read-attended the neighborhood bon fire-and just did my thing which was too exciting besides i was coming down with a sinus infection so i'm glad i didn't go....

IN

the garden is now in so we will just have to wait for mother nature to help out and hope that things grow...lar is in the north woods on the annual memorial day back packing/canoe trip..i did not go one reason is my hips and i just decided to stay home with mitch..oh he would/could go but this way he stays away from all those pesky black flies and so do i..i have lots to do at the homestead..read my book-windows-mow the lawn-clean closets-go thru stuff anyway you get the idea i don't think i'll be bored and if i am it is my own fault..everyone have a good memorial day and lets remember why we celebrate it...and thank a service person either one that has served or one that is now...

SUNDAY

today was a day of rest hahahah...lar spent the afternoon getting ready for the annual pack backing trip to "MITCHELL POND" and i spent the afternoon doing odd jobs...mitch and i are NOT going to go on the trip as my hips have been a problem lately and i'm starting physical therapy..the bird house was made for us by a very special person in georgia..we put it up yesterday and chickadee's checked it out yesterday afternoon but today the house wrens have taken over so it looks like our new bird neighbors are the house wrens they have been in houses in the area before so i think they must think it is their terrority...yesterday it rained in buckets and i mean buckets not sure how much we got due to the fact that our rain gauge leaks a wee bit...it rained so hard that one of larry's cousin was passing thru and thought why not stop by for a visit and wait out the storm..we haven't seen them since we got back so it was nice to visit with them for awhile...of course they arrived just in time for dinner so we share our pizza...the crust wasn't as good as i usually make --cause for some reason i turned off the oven when it was only half cooked...(but maybe the t/storm did that hahah) anyway it was ok and we all got full....

DONE FOR THE SEASON

amen!!! the spring turkey season is over so now i will be able to sleep in>>>>> not that i haven't stayed in bed but i do wake up then most days i really don't go back to sleep...now for the tale ..last night MONDAY i took mitch for his evening walk and heard a turkey out behind the house so as a dutiful wife i came in and told lar..he had decided before i told him that he was gong to go across the street to hunt this morning but instead with my report he changed his mind (just like a man)...so the alarm goes off this morning and up he gets and out in the woods he goes...around 6 am i was hanging clothes on the line as today is my meeting friends for breakfast morning and i wanted to get the clothes on the line before i left..as i was hanging them up i hear coming from the woods "I LOVE YOU" the voice was very familiar to me as it is the one i live with known as lar...it seems as thou i was right and he got the turkey i heard go to bed last night...so the spring turkey season is over for this year..now to get some beauty sleep..not sure if it will do any good or not...so fresh turkey breast tomorrow night for dinner....

APPLES-APPLES

these trees are loaded this year so do you think by fall we (i) will be busy with apples...apple pie-apple sauce-apple butter-apple crisp-apple salad-dried apples-and just plain old apple...now

as i think of this i'm getting exhausted just thinking of all that i might need to do this fall..so i guess i'd ought to be doing some research on what to do with them all...and the hopes we don't get a frost or the bugs don't find a fine place for a few meals..the bees have been busy pollinating them..when walking by the trees you just think that there was a chain saw busy at work ..

lar has gotten three turkey this season and hasn't given up yet one more...yesterday FRIDAY we were working in the garden heard some thunder off over watkins glen so we hurry up and finished just in time as i was walking back to the house the skies opened up and dump rain on us...i guess we have to feel lucky as there ar areas of our country just asking for rain and they sure can use it out in california to help with the forest fires out there...

dandelions are also in full bloom...but they only last for a short while then the grass will be green instead of yellow...

NUMBER 3

well turkey season is in full swing and this morning lar scored for the third time...now 2 of them are mine as i am sharing my permits with him..haahha...the garden has been plowed and dragged so now when the weather is right the planting will start..we will not be putting in as much veggies as we usually do because when we go to HAWAII will be the time that some of the stuff will be ready to take care of ..so instead of wasting it we will just not plant it...trees are budding out and getting ready to blossom...funny how coming north the Flowers have all done their thing and the lilac's were blooming and ours are just about ready to open up...
