1ST HARVEST

these are hazelnuts from our trees..we planted 3 of them a few years ago and this is the first we have harvested any nuts from them..i wanted to pick them before the squirrels and other wild creatures got them..so hopefully one of these days we will crack and eat them...

the apples trees are loaded with apples but they sure aren't any good like some years..they are all scabby-small-and not appealing to the eye so i'm not sure what i'll be using them for...we have picked up maybe 10 bushels that have fallen and taken to the woods for the deer and other wild things to eat and enjoy...the deer do come down under the trees and eat but we just need to get them picked up when i mow the lawn

it sure isn't too fall feeling around here..rainy and cool--we haven even started up the wood stove to take the chill and dampness off the house...

HUNT

this is what lar and mitch did last weekend..off they went goose hunting and i was left home..oh i could have gone if i wanted too but i decided to stay in bed getting up at 4am didn't appeal to me in the lest little bit..now if it was to go get on an airplane to go some where then i could have done that...

lar got a goose a day so he is putting some food in the freezer for winter..not that there isn't any in the freezer now..

several neighbors keep telling lar that when we were gone there was several bucks eating apples under our trees..and does..so coming deer season maybe one will find it's way to the freezer...

HARVEST

monday was a nice day so we dug our potatoes and and picked our winter squash..we were surprised at some of the sizes of the potaotes 2 potatoes would feed a family of more or more..or better yet there are paul bunyan ones...he could eat a whole one just by himself

then on the the squash and i'm not sure how many we harvested but a bunch and this year was a bumper crop.. so we will be eating alot of squash which we both do like...

the tomatoes did ok but in are area there was a late blight which did alot of our friends tomatoes in and there was NO harvest but we are eating them..i didn't plant enough to can as we were going to be away when i should have been doing that but just to go out and pick a freah one of the vine to eat is good enough for me...

FINALLY

well larry is now a happy camper yesterday was the first he has had a chance to get out goose hunting and it was his birthday so i guess that was his present and he even got one..now he and mitch are even out again today and can you believe yesterday's goose is in the crockpot for dinner today..

now for me i've spent thurs and and fri baking for the harvest festival here in our community..cakes for the cake wheel that the auxiliary runs and the money goes to the community council for kid programs and also for the senior bake sale at the festival..then i spent most of the day helping with the cake wheel and it was a perfect fall day..could have been cold and rainy but the sun was out and nice which also helps bring out the people to come buy stuff..

then in the evening we went to a neighbor's pig roast that he has every year to celebrate his birthday--he also raises pigs so he picks out the best to butcher and roast...so it has been a busy saturday and today will also be..talked to lisa this morning and she said there ground is covered with FROST ugh..they are a bit north of us near the canadian border so they would get it way before we would..they live in the area of ny that gets the most snow..lucky them hahahah...

leaves are beginning to turn some so it won;'t be long that are hill sides will be full of color..

MORE

first there is a picture of the eight of us in a town called hawi...we found this great big tree and all of us could not ring the tree it was so huge...the there are the swim beauties hahaha oe of our days on the beach and after we all bought sorong's at the farmer's market..good deal...

things have been busy since we have gotten back and lar and i look at each other and say want to go away..we both say yes but i guess we won't yet not till columbus day weekend....we attend the funeral of a dear friend and neighbor yesterday and today lar says we need a new lawn mower..i guess that last stump i hit really did it in..but it has
been ready to replace for a few years ..it is just that larry is just such a good fix-it guy that finally he says enough is enough..so soon we will go shopping..we will need one before the mowing season is over as that lawn needs it now...

the garden is still producing and we have been eating tomatoes every day and sometimes twice a day...winter squash looks like we ought to have enough for us to enjoy...garlic done well and there more than enough for the season..our pear tree only has 2 pears on it so we will both get to eat one...grapes not so good--4 filberts on one of the trees...all in all the garden has paid for itself but the fruit trees not so good...

TOGETHER

first there were six of us in honolulu and of course what did we do the most but "EAT"..this was our first meal together..my 2 sister and there husbands and lar and i met in honolulu so we could do pearl harbour and the beach at wikiki along with lots of other stuff like diamond head-the pineapple farm-gardens-watching all the other tourists and there were lots of them..spent time swimming at the pool and also the ocean.....
then we moved on the the BIG ISLAND where my brother dan and his wife met us there for the real family vacation...christeen-me-dan-sylvina...we had rented a condo near kona.. that was the home base and from there we did many things..as some of you have been there you know what there is to do but one of my things from 'MY BUCKET LIST" was to get as many national parks stamps that i could get in hawaii and i ended up with 10 so i was happy.....we spent lots of time snorkeling-eating-talking-traveling around the island -hiking-volcano's-watching turtles-just enjoying being together...
after sylvina and dan left there were just four of us left chris and sam lar and i then we continued exploring the big island some more as we moved to hawi for three days after which we moved on to the hilo area...there will be more about hilo at a later day and maybe even some more pictures...
