yesterday was del and margaret 47th anniversary so we all celebrated it with heavy appetizers and cake and ice cream...

tonight we are off to the methodist church for a fat tuesday celebration...and we have beads..passed out all our extras ...

we understand that back home there has been a good snow storm wnd every thing closed up..for us it is over 80..blue sky--but windy...enjoy what ever weather you might have...

we atarted the day by going to church and talking to all our new friends...then it was back to camp where there was a roping competition going on so of course we had to watch that for awhile but first let me back up...del and margaret one of the couples here went with s to church and after wanted to go to a b-b-q take out that they had been told was mmmmmm good so we did...they bought pork ribs and we bought some brisquet to take back for lunch....must say it was the best we've had so far...the guy onlhy cooks on the weekend and if you want some on sunday you had better get there or it is all gone...

anyway after lunch and the cow roping we went rock hunting for topaz...lar found one right away and it is the larger of the two...i found the smaller one..so we think we were lucky as no one ewlse in the bgroup found any...no arrowheads..the place we went was way back in the texas hills on a large ranch...a secret place that not everyone is invited to go to and look....

back to camp to watch the finishing up of the roping---i had made a pot of soup so we had dinner played 2 games of farkle then off to bed...

all in all it was a good sweek now it is time to go back to work...

LAST DAY WEEK 1

SO ENDS THE FIRST WEEK OF BUILDING AND I MUST SAY I THNK WE HAVE BROKEN A RECORD FOR MASON...we started with a slab on monday...and by the end of the week the walls were all up but exterior and interior...plumbing and electrical almost done..the sheating on the outside walls all done..and the roof rafters done...so we feel like we have accomplished alot since being here and we are being told what a group..some of us didn't know anyone but we have all melt together and work like we have been doing this for years not a week...so it is a good feeling...

tonight the king's speech is playing in town bargain prices and good popcorn so most of us are going OUT to the movies...such a treat...there is NO red box nor net flix cause we aren't recieveing any mail..

yesterday for lunch we wer served byt the local pre-k and today they came to see the house such a treat the sure help make the day...then the family arrived just as we wer leaving and the kids just ran to the house saying this is our house and were they excited to see that it is really looking like a house....

so ends week one...

no pictures as for some reason having trouble but some will follow when there's no trouble in cyber space...

WED & THURS

the pictures are of course some of the ranch and the other one is the putting up of the beams that are in the house...

the ranch was just wonderful such a peaceful setting...way up on a "hill" for here tucked back in the woods nestled in a very private place...we had to go thru 2 locked gates before arriving at the house...WOW waht a house..it had a bunk house--guest house-and the main house...all wonderfully decorated in western motif...great host/hostess...se had ham for dinner with alot of other stuff included..the whole board of habitat for mason country were there ...the night sky was just beatuiful and would have been better if the house lights were out..we have been invited back some night if the time allows to see th sky with NO lights...

the house is really coming along...there are 2 huge heavy beams that go in the living room and yesterday (thurs) wasthe day they went in...now tell me would our electric company volunteer to come with one of their boom trucks and help raise and put in them...i say NO...but the local electric came and put them in...what a great back saver and time well spent....this is a good bunch of people to be working with ..the house isreally coming along and the site supervisor and also the team leaders are impredded with how much is getting done...we have cnaged our working schedule...it really gets hot in the afternoon so we are starting a half hr earlier...at 8 instead of 8:30..then we will be out earlier ahah...today lar and i are taking an ectended lunch and going to the museum...it has been suggested by the team leaders that those who want to to it cause it is only opened certain days...so why not take advantage of it....

THIRD DAY OF WORK

ANOTHER HOT DAY OF WORK...STARTED UP ALL BUNDLED UP AS IT WAS ONLY 35 OUT...but it didn't take long for the sun to come and heat things up...hardly NO wind but lots of water and sun screen...

today was a day for inside walls and the plumbing to be started..lots of small stuff that you couldn't see...not sure what is on tap for tomorrow but maybe the roof rafters--sheating--moar electrical work--plumbing...

it is nice to leave at the end of the day and see as much progress as we seem to have made..

tonight ofto the ranch for an habitat dinner with the president--understand we have to go thru 2 locked gates (they gave us the secret code) so my guess it will be something we aren't used too

we also understand that most all the stores-restaurants-business close at noon on sat and are closed all day sunday...back in the 50's i guess --they sure believe in a day of rest--we also understand that there is to be a rodeo right in our campground (city park) so it is going to be an interesting weekend...we will need to fit laundry in some time ahhahaha or we will still have dirty clothes for next week and this weeks are all ready dirty...

SECOND DAY OF WORK

the temp this morning was 32 degrees and rather cold so we bundled up a tad...but it didn't take long to shed a layer or two...lar and i started the day out in the warehouse building inside walls as a matter of fact finishing up the walls as some of them were built yesterday...lunch was served by the catholic church then we got of a tour of the church which ws build 1823 so we got the history of the church...

after lunch it was back to the site of the house where i got involved in help building recycle bins made out of pallets...lar help cut the rafters for maybe tomorrow...some of the inside waslls got put so it is really beginning to look like a house...

we are finding that this is a good place to be...lots to do and we are meeting some interesting people...tomorrow night we are off to a ranch for dinner..the [president of the local habitat has invited the group for dinner ...we understand that it is a place that we all could move into...

the house is near a cAttle auction whhich takes place on monday so we are all thinking we ought to go buy a cow -pigs and chickens hahaha...
