HORSE SHOW

we decided to stay in baton rouge till the weekend as there was a collegiate horse show right here in the park we are staying LSU being the host college...why not never have seen a collegiate horse show before and the price was right...we didn't really understand everything they were dong but we watched anyway thought we might learn something...which i think we did alot of down time between classes or what ever they are called...besides the weekend forecast was for a rainy weekend so we also thogut at least we could dod something and attend the show...we also have a grand nephew that now has his own pony and is taking riding lessons so we thought we might learn what he is doing or going to do later on...

we saw some jumping today tried to take a picture or two but they all turned out blurry...there was some group riding and they were told what to do and when to do it at the end they were told to walk the horrses and put their backs to the judges which of course they did...then the judge called off names in the place they won..starting with the last place....

the collegiate teams were of course from lsu-texas a&m-tulane-and rice...no one we knew were in any of the meets.or what ever they are called...

also spent the weekend getting caught up on laundry--filling up the fridge with "grub" and getting ready to move on t omorrow..

on to houma and the start of a 2 week build (althou we are getting used to this toursit thing haah)..but it won't take long to get back in the swing of things like getting up with an alarm...darn...

i've tried to postpictures but they have taken over a half hr so i will hopefully post them at another time...

WEDNESDAY

this morning we took a nice bike ride and coming back we were in some good head winds and i told lar glad we didn't go any further some of the time i felt i was gong backwards instead of ahead...

then after a shower we had a lgiuht lunch and then off to visit some gardens we thoujght were kinda going to be like the plantations at cornell...were we surprised nothing to compare them too... as a matter of ffact there wasn't much but we did see some trees we hadn't seen before so that was good..

then a trip to sam's club and to fill up big fella as he was getting a tad hungry we founf diesel at sam's for 3.79 and felt lucky as we had seen it on the way for 3. 89 and up...

now we have a decision to make do we stay here or not..heard this morning that there is to be a collegiate horse show here this weekend and the price is good FREE...we know we can still find things to do but we just need to decide if we want to go to the horse show or not...oh such thing to have to make a decision while on vacation...

BATON ROUGE

today was our day to do some sight seeing so where did we start but the old capital building which was built like an castle and heard the history of the place..most interesting how baton rouge became the capital of louisana,,,it had been new orleans now most of you know obout new orleans it is the party capital of louisana and the politicians said NO way are we giong to make new orleans the capitalaas the members of the gorernment would spend most of their time partying so we need to place the capital away for "sin city" ....it was decided to put it in baton rouge as they about 60 miles from the city and not an easy drive at the time and had NO night life...so because some of the poiliticans wanted to party the capital was moved to baton rouge...oh well..serves the right ahahahah..

we visited the old capital that was build like a castle interesting alot about huey long...

then we went to the new capital building that huey had build and looked like the empire building to us..and also has a viewing platform on top..so up we went and i must say we saw the city different..somoe great gardens around the building and walkways..

of course we aren't done yet maybe done in but still had lots more to see..so off to the lousiana state museum....after we had regisdtered we then spent alot of t ime talking to the guys at the desk and learnt how to really eart mud doge-crawfish-crawdads or what ever you want to call them...so now we really now how to eat them and get the most out of them...time to go visit the museum which we started on the third floor...we then spent at least three hrs at the museum and didn't see it all but it closed at 5pm so we had to leave..it is a museum that we would return too..

baton rouge has been a good stop and the museum have been a good visit and highly recommened for anyone to visit...very well done and most interesting..

not sure what we might do tomorrow..bike or even go on the LSU campus to visit some of their gardens just like the plantations like at cornell.....

a good stop if traveling thru lousiana and thining of visiting the capital...

the pictures ae taking their sweet old time so i am going to send this off...

BATON ROUGE

here we are on the banks of the mississippi right near or even on the LSU campus..it is just s hoot and holler away ..we are also in the middle of their horse farm so lots of activity going on...

we just took an 11 mile bike ride on the dike above the river and of course saw lots of barges going up and down with their loads heading some where and even oil/gas tankers being filled up with that precious cargo as the prices of fuel seem to be creeping up and not down or even steady would be good not this going up and up...drive by a station and it is one price go by another day and it has jumped 4-6-8-cents...enough about that as we can't do anything about it..we just have to bit the bullet and try to find the cheapest station...

in the pictures there is a building in town that looks like a castle not sure if it is a government building or not...of course the lsu colliseum where of course football games are played also there is the building of the vet school and small animal clinic just like at home....

when we checked in this morning we asked about crawfish and were told there is a very good place where you buy it by the pound and take it out..so guess what the plan is for today..go find "tony"s and buy some crawfish for lar me i think i'll get shrimp as i think it is way tooooo much work to eat crawfish...now if they were all picked apart and put the meat on my plate then i would eat it but to pick it i'd starve before i had enough ahahhahaha...

some of the museums were closed today so right now that is going to be the plan for tomorrow go visit the state museum of lousianna and even the capital building...soon our tourist gig is going to be over as we need to report on sunday for the next build...so we have got to make the most of this relaxing...lar would say it is time for a gin and tonic...

MOVIE

last night when we took a bike ride around the park we noticed that there was a truck with a sign on it that said film ------ austin, texas and they were putting up a HUGE tent..we thought that maybe someone special was getting married here in the park or that something was going on and we ought to know what it was...

so this afternoon we went for a bike ride and stopped at the sign in office and asked what was going on in the park...they told us on they are making a movie..oh we said yep and it start HARRISNON FORD which perked an interest in us...so of we went on our bire ride and then went donw to the lake where they were filming the movie so we watched for an hr or so...harrison ford was not out doing any acting but his double was and we talked to him (sorry NO pictures of him were allowed)...harrison ford was in his RV and we could see where it was but harrison never came out to say hello to us darn...the name of the movie is 'ENDERS GAME' and is due to come out in june..it is some sorta of alien movie not the kind i really like..oh well..

we were told that alot of films are done here in the state parks here in lousianna cause they get a really BIG tax break (the movie companies)..it brings in alot of jobs and money so it is a win-win thing..

also tomorrow we are going to go to lunch at louie and the red lady...if you are watchers of diners-drive-in-and dives then you might have seen this on it...it is only a couple of miles from the park ...so why not go i like lunch out even dinner and even breakfast...

i guess this has been an exciting p-lace to stop..where a we..we are in FOUNTAINBLEAU STATE PARK in mandeville, lousianna...we have been here before and e njoyed it as there is a good bike tgrail that goes right thru the park so today we did 15 miles and tomorrow we will take a left and go the other way...
